In terms of intelligent technology, through the use of single-chip microcomputer control technology and sensor technology, the automation and intelligence of paper counting have been realized. In terms of image processing technology, a non-contact paper counting device based on image processing was proposed by comparing and analyzing the existing paper counting technologies and algorithms. This device uses a digital microscope for image acquisition, combining the image stitching method of SURF features and the image processing method of Gabor filtering to achieve accurate counting of stacked sheets. This method avoids the drawbacks of traditional mechanical paper counters, such as paper abrasion, high cost and noise.

For example, the use of origami mathematics and algorithms to design new mechanical structures, as well as the exploration of the nature of computing and its limits through the idea of general-purpose computers, provide new directions for the study of paper counters.
